Mead, picked to finish third in the 4A GSL, defeated Post Falls 41-3 last week. Coeur d’Alene handled Central Valley, picked to finish second in the 4A GSL, 47-11 last Friday. The Vikings opened the season at Folsom (Calif.) on Aug. 27.

Coeur d’Alene last played at Albi in 2014, beating Ferris 31-8.

The rest of the high school football slate involving local teams takes place Friday.

Lake City (1-1) at Central Valley (0-1): The Timberwolves bounced back from an opening-week loss by hammering Lewis and Clark 51-6 last week.

University (1-0) at Post Falls (1-1): It’s the home opener for the Trojans. University won 13-10 at Sandpoint last week, in a game delayed some 90 minutes by lightning. Post Falls won 22-7 at Sandpoint in the season opener. The Trojans lost 14-7 at University last year.

The teams last met in 2013, with Timberlake winning 14-6 at home.

Timberlake is off to an 0-2 start for the first time since 2010.

St. Maries (2-0) at Deer Park (1-0): The Lumberjacks are ranked No. 2 in 2A in the latest Idaho media poll. The Stags opened last week with a 23-0 blanking of Rogers at Albi Stadium.

“I’ve been very impressed by Zach’s natural ability to rush the passer,” Eck said. “And he’s worked hard on his body, he’s up to about 222 pounds now, and I really think he can be a difference maker for us. He’s still doing some things with the linebackers, but I think his speed can give some offensive linemen problems (as an edge rusher).”

“The whole process has been completely amazing,” said Nathan Williams, now in his fourth season as the Badgers boys basketball coach. “And the parents … it’s an hour and a half to Spokane, Coeur d’Alene, when we’d play an AAU game, and an hour and a half back, and there were so many times there was 6, 8 inches of snow. And we’ve got a game at 8 a.m. They’d always schedule us at 8 a.m., coming from Bonners. So we’re waking up at 5 … it was crazy. But the commitment from the parents and the kids has been amazing.”
