Joyce (Robertson) Weeks, 76
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 8 years, 4 months AGO
Our dear sweet mother lost her battle with dementia on Aug. 13, 2016. Mom was born on Oct. 9, 1939, in Long Beach, Calif. She married her high school sweetheart, DeVon Weeks, on June 30, 1956, in Kingman, Ariz. They lived in Ojai, Calif., until they moved the family to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1973. DeVon passed on Dec. 27, 2013.
Mom stayed home to make sure we were all well taken care of, baking pies, cooking meals, leading Brownies and Girl Scout troops and delivering sack lunches to dad at the construction sites.
Later in life as the nest emptied mom worked at Montgomery Ward in Ventura, Calif., and Spokane, Wash.; Carters Children’s wear at the Factory Outlets in Post Falls; and finally retired in 2005 from Harper’s (Flexell) in Post Falls, Idaho. Mom counted being the first one in her graduating class to have grandchildren as her special accomplishment! Mom was a wonderful wife, mom and caregiver for dad until she could do it no longer, she never gave up no matter what she did, even in the end. Her determination was always something to admire.
Mom is survived by two daughters, Eileen (Ed) Gordon of Post Falls and Carri (Mark) Berglund of Coeur d’Alene; one son, Glenn (Christine) Weeks of Post Falls; four grandchildren, Amber (John) McGinnis of Rathdrum, Idaho, Brent (Jen) Gordon, Joshua (Devin) Weeks and Wendy Pratt, all of Coeur d’Alene; great-grandkids Dylan Gordon, Daniel Gordon, Tyler Hall, Abbey Aaseby, Aalyha and Hailee Gordon. Mom has one sister, Carol Dunahee in Vancouver, Wash.
Mom was preceded in death by her mother and father, Clancy and Elmer Robertson; and one infant daughter, Linda Lee. We would like to thank all the staff and residents (we call friends and family) at The Garden at Orchard Ridge for the love, care, compassion and laughs; we will all miss mom’s hugs!
Holli Hansen, On Site for Seniors, you and the care you provide is simply irreplaceable. Hospice of North Idaho provided the love and support we always needed. We will forever think of all of you caregivers above as angels the remainder of our lives.
The family held a private service on Aug. 18, 2016, at Bell Tower Funeral Home in Post Falls.
If you know of anyone with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, please get support for them and yourself.
God Bless you mom, we miss you.
