PREP ROUNDUP: Lake City rallies past Post Falls

POST FALLS — Sophomore middle blocker Tessa Sarff had 10 kills and the Lake City Timberwolves recovered from a first-set loss to beat the Post Falls Trojans 23-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-19 in 5A Inland Empire League volleyball Thursday night at The Arena.

“Tessa was big in the middle for us, and it was a way for our offense to be a little more versatile,” Lake City assistant coach Renee Bordelon said. “Tessa did awesome, and (setter) Klaire (Mitchell) kept feeding her the ball, and we needed that.”

Outside hitter Ashley Kaufman had 18 kills and three aces for Lake City (11-1, 2-0 5A IEL). Mitchell had 35 assists and 18 digs, Reilley Chapman 22 digs, Chloe Knudson 13 digs, Arlaina Stephenson three aces, Zion Nelson three blocks.

“We had a slower start, and just really needed to find our rhythm in their gym,” Bordelon said. “It was their first home match and they had energy, they had momentum. They were digging us up left and right. I’m very, very proud of my girls; they finished the match, that’s for sure.”

Post Falls (4-2, 0-2) plays in the Lakeland Invitational on Saturday.

Lake City travels to Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday.

SANDPOINT — Kayla Neumann had 15 kills, 14 digs and three aces as the host Bulldogs outlasted the Vikings 30-28, 24-26, 25-13, 24-26, 15-12 in nonleague play at Les Rogers Court.

Laney Search had nine kills, 33 assists, 14 digs and three aces for Sandpoint. Grace Hicks added 11 kills for the Bulldogs.

Ali Williams had 19 kills, 21 assists and nine digs for Coeur d'Alene (2-2). Delaney Schmidt added 13 kills and two blocks, Isabella Hollibaugh 17 assists and two aces, Sam Swayze 18 digs, Elly Schrader three blocks, Carli Daniels three aces.

MOSCOW — The host Bears held off the Hawks 25-20, 14-25, 22-25, 25-12, 15-8 at Bear Den in the 4A Inland Empire League opener for both schools.

Further information was not available for Lakeland (4-5), which hosts the Lakeland Invitational on Saturday.

PLUMMER — Lillian Rhea had nine kills and five blocks for the Knights in a 16-25, 24-26, 25-23, 25-19, 15-8 nonleague win against the Panthers at Ron Miller Court.

“We were just not covering well in the first two games,” Lakeside coach Brad Veile said. “We started covering the floor more in the final three games, and it was a team effort coming around on that. We just made too many unforced errors in the first two sets.”

Lakeside (3-0) travels to Kootenai on Tuesday.

Coeur d’Alene Charter (1-3) will face Kootenai on Saturday at Holy Family Catholic School in Coeur d’Alene.

RATHDRUM — Cooper Stevens scored a pair of goals, including the go-ahead tally in the 32nd minute, to lift the visiting Bears (3-0-3, 1-0 4A Inland Empire League) past the Hawks at Rotary Field.

Ian Horne scored in the 28th minute off an assist from Dade McDevitt to tie the game at 1 for Lakeland (1-6-1, 0-2), which travels to Colbert, Wash., to play Northwest Christian on Tuesday.

POST FALLS — The Trojans, missing five starters due to injury, fell to the Bullpups in a nonleague game.

“It is just tough to have such a good group of girls that have had such a dumb run of bad luck,” Post Falls coach Steve Mills said. “Hopefully we can start getting these girls back on the field for the second half of the season.”

Post Falls (1-5-1) hosts Lewiston on Saturday.

Ceci McAfee and Abbie Taylor each scored two goals for Coeur d’Alene Charter (5-1-1, 4-1-1 IML). Brooklyn Cunningham had a goal and two assists for the Panthers, who outshot Kellogg 35-0.

Coeur d’Alene Charter plays host to Bonners Ferry next Friday.

Kellogg (1-4, 1-4) hosts Bonners Ferry Saturday.
