Minor injuries result from crash

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper John Underwood responded to a single-vehicle motorcycle crash near the intersection of Montana 206 and U.S. 2 on Friday morning. According to Underwood, a man from Washington was riding a Harley Davidson westbound on U.S. 2 when he realized too late that there was a red light and a car stopped in front of him.
“He slammed on his brakes trying to stop in time and steered to the right to avoid hitting that car,” Underwood said.
The motorcyclist managed to avoid hitting the other vehicle, but put the motorcycle down in the intersection. The driver was taken to North Valley Hospital for treatment minor injuries. The highway was closed for only a few minutes.
Underwood said that while Montana is a beautiful state, the crash is a reminder not to get too distracted and always pay close attention while driving.
A Whitefish Police officer picked up a bicycle that was found on Texas Avenue.
A man called from Central Avenue to report that debit cards, credit cards and keys had been stolen from his vehicle.
A caller on Woodside Lane asked for assistance in getting a woman parked in the caller’s driveway to move along. The caller said the woman had told the caller that she was “hiding from the sun.”
A bartender reported that men were fighting outside the establishment’s front door. The bartender said someone had also been punched inside the bar, but had limited information to give dispatchers. An officer was sent to investigate. The person who was punched did not want to file a report and the person who threw the punch had fled the scene.
An underage teen was taken to jail after he allegedly stole beer from a business on U.S. 93 and jumped into a car with other underage individuals, then sped off. The teens were taken into custody, the alleged thief was taken to jail and the car was towed.
Montana Highway Patrol was dispatched to Mile Marker 185 on U.S. 2 near the Bear Creek river access. A vehicle had rolled four or five times, but the driver was wearing her seat belt.
Montana Highway Patrol was dispatched to the intersection of Whitefish Stage and Arnica Lane for the report of a semi-truck that had run off the road and blocked both lanes of traffic.
A contractor called the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office from Mill Camp Road in Bigfork to report that a home had been vandalized. Someone had poured gasoline on carpet and cardboard was set on fire. The homeowner and contractor did not have a suspect in mind.
Someone on Helena Flats Road reported that an unknown substance had been dumped on vehicles and some fishing poles had been broken. The victim had an idea who the suspect might be.
A deputy investigated an anonymous report that a wanted drug dealer was living in a trailer in Martin City. The deputy did not find the wanted man, but he did encounter an aggressive pit bull, which he pepper-sprayed.
A man reported that his compound bow had been stolen from his vehicle as it was parked near the Old Steel Bridge. The thief smashed his window.
Someone complained that a fraudulent $480 check had been written in Kalispell.
A woman called from outside Whitefish to ask if it was illegal for her car to burn oil. The woman said someone had followed her and taken photographs of her license plate. The person who followed her told the woman that she was polluting the air and that the license plate photograph would aid the person in reporting the woman to law enforcement.
A parent reported that his 10-year-old son had allegedly been ganged up on by four older youths at a park. A 13-year-old allegedly pulled some brass knuckles out to threaten the boy, but did not swing at him. The boy allegedly bit the 13-year-old on the hand and was able to get away unscathed.
Someone called from Tamarack Lane in Columbia Falls to report that a woman had run out to the roadway, saying that two men had drugged and assaulted her. The woman had trouble explaining what had happened at first, but was able to provide some details eventually. She was taken to the hospital.
A man reported that he had been “jumped” by two individuals who tried to stop his bicycle ride and took his backpack near a bridge on U.S. 2. The man said he had a gash on his head from the encounter. The man refused an ambulance, but did go to the hospital.
A woman on White Fawn Lane reported that she was OK with her neighbor’s cattle being in her yard, but she was concerned that the amount of alfalfa they were eating might make them sick.
Kalispell Police called for a coroner after someone called from Hawthorn Avenue, saying that a man appeared to be dead on a lawn. Attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful. More details about the death were not available.
A person called to report that he or she had paid $750 to rent a house in Kalispell, but once the person showed up to rent the home, people were still living there. The family in the home had no idea someone had listed the place for rent on Craigslist, and it appeared the would-be renter had been scammed out of a deposit.
A woman was told not to come back to an establishment on Third Avenue East North after she was allegedly caught running out of the store with juice and sandwiches that she did not pay for.
A backpack was found with gunpowder and bullets inside. It was turned in to the police department.
