LETTER: Why can't we be civil to each other?
Daily Inter-Lake | UPDATED 8 years, 4 months AGO
As I was driving south into Lakeside this morning I noticed a prominent sign on private, undeveloped property stating “Trump the B--ch.” [Modified for taste]
Although I realize that rhetoric of this nature is often found at rallies for Donald Trump, I was deeply saddened to see it near my home and in our beautiful valley.
Immediately I thought of our grandchildren, so observant as we drive together. Our family tries so hard to teach them not only “proper” language but not to denigrate others, not to bully and to be kind and compassionate. They will surely ask about this sign: Why is that word there; isn’t that a mean word to use; who put it there, and who are they talking about? Hard questions to answer in 6- and 9-year-old terms, and yet I ask myself these same questions, unable to find answers.
What/where are our human values? It’s a sad day for me here in Lakeside. —Linda Regnier, Lakeside
