Elizabeth (Betty) Jean (Paul) Bradley, born Sept. 13, 1928, daughter of Arthur P. and Eva M. (Boyd) Paul, passed from this life on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Francis Bradley (Oct. 31, 1928 to March 25, 1990), and her sister, Patricia Helen (Paul) Magnuson (Oct. 31, 1926 to May 25, 2010), and is survived by her children, Shaunne Patricia Bourland (Gary) of Nicholasville, Ky., Patrick (Pete) Timothy Bradley of Seattle, Wash., and Kelley Pauline Compton (Mark) of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; three grandchildren, Erin Elizabeth (Bourland) Kimbrel (Rob), Allison Francis Bourland and Timothy James Bourland; and one great-grandchild, Eva Lee Kimbrel.

Betty, known also by her family as “Murphy,” was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith, having been a charter member of Assumption Catholic Church on Indian Trail Road in Spokane. But her greatest devotion, beyond her adoring family, cooking and gardening, were the many animals she cared for throughout her life. Her passion for animals began at a young age growing up on the Boyd ranch near Missoula, Mont. Her dogs, typically a pair of Boston Terriers, and most recently Sammy and Pugsly (the pug), were never far from her side.

She graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing (RN) in 1949, and served as a nurse at the Spokane Blood Bank for many years.

A rosary and Mass will be held at Assumption Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, and a family-only internment at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Contributions, in lieu of flowers may be made to the charity of your choice, or to the Spokane Humane Society.
