Thrift Haus to help out Doctors Without Borders

The Whitefish Soroptimist Thrift Haus will donate 100 percent of its proceeds from store sales today through Saturday, Sept. 21 to 24, to Doctors Without Borders and the International Rescue Committee.

The special donation is a tribute to the many years Sam and Ruth Neff of Whitefish have held an annual yard sale to raise money for these service organizations. The Neffs are unable to hold their annual yard sale this year because of a lack of volunteer help.

Doctors Without Borders is an international organization known for delivering emergency medical aid to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters or are otherwise excluded from health care.

The International Rescue Committee responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and gain control of their future.

The Thrift Haus is located at 303 First St. in Whitefish. Store hours are noon to 5 p.m. today through Friday, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Soroptimist International of Whitefish operates the thrift store with an all-volunteer workforce to raise money for other nonprofits with a focus on improving the lives of women and girls.

Pediatric mass casualty drill

Local hospitals, emergency services and schools will join in a pediatric mass casualty exercise on Thursday.

Kalispell Regional Medical Center, North Valley Hospital, Flathead County Office of Emergency Services and Flathead County schools are working together on the drill.

The exercise, a simulated school bus accident and patient-care follow-up, will take place in both hospitals’ emergency departments and at a virtual off-site location.

During the exercise, staff and visitors may notice drill activities in and around the hospitals.
