NIC SOCCER: Pence scores in 88th minute to spark Cardinals

COEUR d’ALENE — Hal Pence scored the go-ahead goal on a free kick in the 88th minute for North Idaho College in a 2-1 win over the Walla Walla Warriors in a Northwest Athletic Conference match at Eisenwinter Field on Saturday.

After trailing 1-0 at halftime, NIC freshman Jose Perez scored to tie the match in the 62nd minute.

“We’ve defended better in recent matches, but our issue is creating some chances,” NIC men’s soccer coach Ken Thompson said. “We’ve been working on our movement on the top of the field and midfield. We started going that way in the first half and we were able to hang with it and get some goals in the second half.”

NIC (2-5-2, 2-3 NWAC) hosts Treasure Valley on Wednesday.

Walla Walla is 5-3-1, 2-2-1.

YAKIMA, Wash. — Sandpoint High product Sterling Healy scored a pair of second-half goals as the Cardinals shut out the Yaks in a Northwest Athletic Conference match.

NIC (6-1, 4-0 NWAC) hosts Treasure Valley on Wednesday.

Yakima Valley is 3-2-3, 2-1-2.
