A man has been charged with misdemeanor assault and felony criminal child endangerment after he allegedly punched a man in a Kalispell store and drunkenly fled the scene with a child in the vehicle.

Kevin Wayne Renshaw, 31, was charged in Flathead District Court last week.

According to court documents, on Sept. 16 a man called the Kalispell Police Department to report that he had allegedly been punched by Renshaw. The man said he had confronted Renshaw about allegedly parking inappropriately at the Dollar Tree. The man told investigators that Renshaw then hit him so hard in the ear that he fell to the ground. Renshaw allegedly left the scene.

An officer later stopped Renshaw’s vehicle. Renshaw allegedly told the officer that he was “DUI” and that he had been drinking.

Renshaw allegedly was slurring his speech and smelled of alcohol. One of the three passengers in Renshaw’s car was a 2-year-old child.

At the police station, Renshaw allegedly admitted hitting the man in the head after a verbal altercation. A breath test indicated that Renshaw’s blood alcohol concentration was .164, double the legal limit of .08.

Renshaw is set to be arraigned on Oct. 6.
