NIC GOLF: Gilbert wins NIC Invite in playoff

HAYDEN — North Idaho College mens golfer Ross Gilbert won the NIC Invitational, beating the Community Colleges of Spokane duo of Preston Roth and Chandler Thomas on Monday at Avondale Golf Club.

After three pars on the first playoff hole, Ross parred the second while the other two bogeyed.

“The guys had a solid day today with the course playing much tougher (than Day 1),” NIC golf coach Russell Grove said.

The NIC men won the team competition, beating CC Spokane by 13 shots.

On the women’s side, NIC’s Madi Brown came in second, four shots off the pace set by Brianna Esvelt of Columbia Basin College. The Cardinals also won the team competition, cruising past second-place Columbia Basin 509 to 541.
