EWU athletic director to speak at NIC booster luncheon
COEUR d’ALENE — Bill Chaves, the athletic director at Eastern Washington University, will be the speaker at the North Idaho College Booster Club Luncheon on Tuesday at noon at The Coeur d’Alene Resort.
Chaves is a two-time recipient of national Athletics Director of the Year honors, and enters his 10th year at the helm of the EWU athletics department. He was honored in 2015-16 for the second time by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics as one of 28 winners of the Under Armour Athletics Director of the Year Award. He was one of four athletics directors in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision to be honored. Chaves also earned the honor in the 2012-13 school year.
Among the highlights of Chaves’ tenure is the installation of the first red synthetic surface in America.
In 2015, Chaves was appointed to the NCAA Division I Council representing the Big Sky Conference, and currently serves as the chair of the Women’s Basketball Oversight Committee which reports to the council. Previously, he served on a competition oversight committee.
The special NIC Booster Club lunch menu is usually $10 or less and the public is welcome to attend. NIC coaches will provide updates on recruiting, season sports and upcoming athletic tournaments and NIC athletic department events.
