Coeur d’Alene Public school libraries are about to get a boost from the 1970s, without a wayback machine.

The Coeur d’Alene Education Partnership will host the third annual Disco Inferno fundraiser Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. at the Coeur d’Alene Eagles Lodge, 209 Sherman Ave.

Disco Inferno is a night of dining and dancing to the music of the ’70s while supporting school libraries in Coeur d’Alene.

Tickets are $30 per person in advance at discoinferno.brownpapertickets.com. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $40 per person. Admission includes dinner and a complimentary drink ticket.

Donated funds will be used to purchase books and supplies for each library in the Coeur d’Alene School District.

Last year, CEP raised more than $1,700 for each library in the Coeur d’Alene School District. The librarians were able to augment their collections and expand their materials and resources.

CEP is anticipating another successful year, thanks to community sponsors: Lola and Duane Hagadone, Jeda Media, The Coeur d’Alene Tribe, The Art Spirit Gallery, Macy’s, Hawley Troxell, Northwest Specialty Hospital, Mountain West Bank,

Michael Nail CPA, Kimmell Corporation, Helbling Benefits Consulting, Mike Kennedy, Parkwood Business Properties, Range NW, and Java on Sherman. Event planners are organizing opportunities for those in attendance to further this fundraising effort.

Student literacy rates and academic achievement are significantly affected by student access to strong school library programs with up-to-date, relevant learning materials.

“I am so pleased to be supporting our public school librarians in Coeur d’Alene,” said Disco Inferno sponsor Lola Hagadone. “Our librarians play such an important role in our children’s and grandchildren’s education. All kids in our public schools have access to their school library where they can learn a life-long love of reading. Someone once said to me ‘at first you learn to read, and then you read to learn,’ and I think that is so true.”

CEP is driven by the belief that every student deserves a high-quality, public education. It strives to unite individuals, businesses, and organizations in support of excellence in public education, to keep the community informed about educational developments, and to advocate on a local level.

Fundraising to benefit Coeur d’Alene public school libraries fits closely with CEP’s mission. This event not only recognizes the important role that libraries play in student literacy and academic achievement, but it is a fundraiser that promises to benefit every school in the district. CEP understands the need for local school libraries to expand their non-fiction collection to continue to meet the Idaho Core Standards, and they can help provide these supplemental learning materials as a show of their support for excellence in our schools.

Chief Allan, chairman of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe who is also a sponsor of this year’s Disco Inferno, stated, “Like the Coeur d’Alene Education Partnership, the Coeur d’Alene Tribe stands behind the belief that every student deserves the very best when it comes to education. We’re happy to join in CEP’s efforts to support Coeur d’Alene’s K-12 public school libraries and ensure continued excellence in our schools.”
