At Whitefish on Saturday, dogs would be unleashed on both sides of the pitch, but it would be the metaphorical allusion to Pirate feet which would prevail over the host Bulldogs.  After being sidelined from previous contests on account of an ankle injury, Connor Lanier made up for lost time by scoring the go ahead goal off a dish from Andrew Hanson.
The Pirates had several other viable first half scoring opportunities that included a pair of ricochets off the side post by Hanson and a penalty kick by Mike Mercer that was denied by the Whitefish keeper.
Coach Adam Fansher commented, “While the Pirates are closer to full strength, we need to do a better job of finishing.  A one goal lead made the end of the match a little more uncomfortable, but I’m happy with the result.”
Polson (2-1, 5-2) will host Columbia Falls on Saturday, October 1 at 1:00pm.  There will be no boys match against Bigfork on Thursday on account of insufficient Viking numbers scuttling their season.

At the Polson High library, a group of ten student-athletes were recognized for their dual AA blend of achievements both in the classroom for academics as well as for the caliber of their athleticism that will extend their careers at the collegiate level. The gathering was accompanied by a simulated signing session to commemorate commitments to various collegiate athletic programs, many of which rely on academic incentives to assist athletes. Many of these student-athletes have been recognized multiple times on the honor roll. Several will be graduating with academic honors. Below are the institutions to which they have committed along with some of their accomplishments.
