Four-legged forest terrorist not too scary

Flathead County Sheriff’s Office responded to Loon Lake Road after a man reported that a bear was terrorizing his camp, located near a boat ramp. The man said he was armed with bear spray and he had been rattling cans to keep the bear away. Authorities did not have contact with the bear. The bear’s alleged antics were not enough for the man to be scared away, as he stayed in the camp.
A deputy responded to U.S. 93 in Whitefish, where one man had possibly broken another man’s jaw in a dispute about the cost of firewood.
Someone complained that two men with a pit bull were trying to flag people down on Bear Creek Road in Bigfork. The men apparently looked like they were characters from the 1972 film “Deliverance,” but an investigation the previous day had determined that the men were legally camped on federal land.
A deputy took a report of a sexual assault that had allegedly happened in the Columbia Falls area a year earlier. Both the victim and alleged perpetrator were under age.
A woman called from Missoula to report that a homeless man had allegedly given two teenage girls meth in Hungry Horse and then sexually assaulted them. A deputy determined that more information was necessary in order to file a report.
Whitefish Police reported that a shotgun and child’s bicycle had been stolen from East Third Street.
A black bear was seen digging through some trash on State Park Road, near a home. Fish and game officers were alerted to the problem.
Columbia Falls Police responded after a pursuit ended on U.S. 2. Alcohol was believed to be a factor and the subject was taken to jail.
Kalispell Police responded to Third Avenue West North, where someone reported that tools were stolen from a garage.
A car battery and car parts were reported stolen from a vehicle on Fifth Avenue East. The caller to dispatch described the vehicle as “crappy.”
A man called from Bing Court to report that an X-Box, laptop, Apple television, a single boot, and various other items had allegedly been stolen by his girlfriend. The man was told that the matter was a civil issue.
