Gary Osburn, 75
Gary C. “Ozzie” Osburn passed away March 28, 2017, following an 11-year battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 28, 1941, to Gladys Alberta Roberts and Robert D. Osburn in Missoula, Mont. The youngest of four children, Gary and his siblings Robert “Bud,” Dixie and Irene grew up in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana.
His family moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1956, where his parents purchased the Craft & Hobby Shop on Sherman Avenue. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1959, completed basic training in the summer before his senior year, and began active duty right after graduating from high school in 1960. He served on the USS Ticonderoga monitoring weather. After his discharge in June 1962, he served six years in the Navy Reserve.
He and Sharon “Sheri” Johnson were married in the LDS Idaho Falls Temple on Nov. 29, 1962. They made their home in Moses Lake, Wash., for 38 years before moving to Meridian, Idaho, in 2005.
He is survived by Sheri, his sweetheart of 54 years; his daughters, Lisa Pettit (Richard) and Rebecca Buss (Alan); his son, Steven; a sister, Irene Potter; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2017, at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens, 7315 N. Government Way, with Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene, in care of the arrangements. You may visit Gary’s memorial and sign his online guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
