RATHDRUM — An 70-year-old Athol man was transported to Kootenai Health following a head-on crash on Highway 53 just east of Rathdrum on Tuesday night.

According to Idaho State Police, John Vanscyoc was eastbound in a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup around 9:45 p.m. when the vehicle went left of center colliding with a westbound semi driven by Narpreet Khosa, 39, of British Columbia. Vanscyoc was in fair condition on Wednesday afternoon.

The Dodge spun around and hit a 2007 Chevy Avalanche driven by Derek Fredericks, 51, Sagle.

The semi came to rest in a ditch south of the highway.

Fredericks and the semi driver were not injured. All occupants were wearing their seatbelts.

The highway was blocked for about an hour. An investigation continues.
