Big 6th inning leads Big Sky past Polson

POLSON — Polson dropped a tight game with Class AA Missoula Big Sky on Thursday, hanging close until the Eagles burst through in the sixth inning.

Polson answered Big Sky every step, scoring a run in the bottom of the third inning to answer to from the Eagles in the top of the frame. The Pirates cut the Big Sky lead to 3-2 by the end of the fifth inning but the Eagles scored six runs in the top of the sixth to run away with the final score.

The Pirates answered the big swing with two runs in the bottom of the sixth but couldn’t quite close the gap.

Ashley Benson led Polson with a 2 for 3 performance at the plate, with five other girls picking up hits in the loss.

RONAN — Columbia Falls routed Class B Ronan in a nonconference game, scoring 12 runs in the fourth inning to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Sydney Hovde was 3 for 3 from the plate with a double and a home run in the win. Starting pitcher K.J. Schweikert was also a perfect 3 for 3 from the plate while picking up the win in the circle in a combined no-hitter.
