The Spring Dash, an annual rite of spring in downtown Coeur d’Alene, will take place Sunday, April 23.

This year’s dashers will be wearing a T-shirt with artwork designed by Coeur d’Alene High School student Rachel Jeske.

Jeske won the annual shirt design competition and received a $100 check Monday from Mark Tucker, executive director of United Way of North Idaho, and Keri Stark, the nonprofit’s impact and agency relations coordinator.

In its 35th year, the Spring Dash is a 5-mile fun run that starts at McEuen Park, winds through the Sanders Beach neighborhood and lakeside along the Centennial Trail to Potlatch Hill. The return route is the reverse with the finish line and awards at the McEuen Park Pavilion.

The T-shirt design contest was open to high school students. The call was for original work incorporating tulips, the words “Spring Dash” and “35th Annual.”

Jeske’s design includes a running shoe footprint, orange tulips and a map view of the waters of Lake Coeur d’Alene. It will grace 800 to 1,000 shirts.

Hosted by United Way of North Idaho, the event attracts hundreds of participants each year. Proceeds benefit United Way’s 22 nonprofit-driven programs and services that support health, education and financial stability in the community.

The Spring Dash is a qualifying race for Bloomsday’s second-seed starting area.

A tot trot for kids 10 and under will begin at 9 a.m. and the full race starts at 9:30 a.m.

Registration costs $30 for adults, $25 for youth and $10 for tots. To sign up or for additional information, visit unitedwayofnorthidaho.org/springdash.
