Whitefish girls tennis took down Columbia Falls in a close 4-3 dual and split with Dillon and Polson over the weekend.

The Lady Bulldogs won three singles and two doubles in a 5-2 win over the Lady Pirates before falling to Dillon 4-3.

“It was pretty typical early season tennis for us,” head coach Patrick Dryden said. “I thought on the whole we served fairly well. We didn’t get outside until last Monday, so we were at a pretty big disadvantage.”

Dryden pointed to a key win by Savannah Krause against Columbia Falls and the freshmen combination of Olivia Potthoff and Aubrey Hanks as the highlights of the first week of competition.

“Doubles is a lot about experience, and you throw two freshmen out there. It caught me off guard, I wasn’t expecting them to have so much success initially,” he said.

The Lady Bulldogs host Libby Thursday before heading to the Cut Bank Invite over the weekend.

After dropping some key singles against Polson, Dryden said the emphasis is on getting better results in those matches.

“The top of the lineup has a lot of work to do,” he said.
