Races set for May 16 election

Voters on May 16 will decide seats for highway districts and library, hospital, school and water and sewer district boards.

The candidate filing and withdrawal deadlines have passed. There are several uncontested races that do not require an election to be held.

Mailed absentee ballots must be requested using the form available at http://bit.ly/1KYkNyw.

The request can be dropped off, mailed, emailed or faxed to the Kootenai County Elections Office no later than May 5.

Early voting will be available at the Elections Office, 1808 N. Third St., Coeur d’Alene, May 1-12. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Voters with any questions can call 446-1030.

Here are the races:

Post Falls School Board Zone 5 — Incumbent Carol Goodman will be challenged by write-in candidate Gary Nystrom for the four-year seat.

Consolidated Free Library (six-year seat) — Judith Centa Meyer, Regina McCrea and Jason R. Ball are running for two open seats.

Consolidated Free Library (four-year seat) — Carl Gidlund and Robert Fish are running.

East Side Highway District (sub-district 2) — John Austin, Terry Sverdsten and Mark Thyr are running.

Lakes Highway District (sub-district 1) — Rod Twete and Laurin Scarcello are running.

Post Falls Highway District (sub-district 1) — Terry Werner is running unopposed.

Post Falls Highway District (sub-district 2) — Robert Balser and Todd Tondee are running.

Worley Highway District (sub-district 2) — David Johnson and Corinne Johnson running.

Kootenai Hospital District — Richard Barclay, Thomas deTar, Teri Farr and Randil Clark are running for two open six-year seats.

Bayview Water and Sewer (director No. 2) — George "Chris" Gormsen and Richard Doney are running for the six-year seat.

Bayview Water and Sewer (director No. 1) — Robyn Edwards and Norma Jean Knowles are seeking the six-year seat.

All highway district seats are four years.
