Deon Masker, 75
Deon Garfield Emery Masker, 75, departed her earthly existence and returned to our Heavenly Father on April 8, 2017. She was at her home in Hayden, Idaho, surrounded with love and devotion from her six children and sister Carol.
Deon was born April 30, 1941, in Murray, Utah, and was the first child of Jack A. and Bertha Howlett Garfield. She spent her first 19 years in Draper, Utah, where she experienced a wonderful childhood. She was raised near a large extended family and spent a lot of time with aunts, uncles and cousins.
Deon attended Draper Elementary, Mt. Jordan Jr. High and then graduated from Jordan High School in 1959. She married Larry H. Emery on Aug. 12, 1960, in the Salt Lake Temple. In 1965, they moved to Glendale, Calif., for school. In 1970, they made their home in Hayden Lake, Idaho, where they raised their six children. After 27 years of marriage, they divorced. In 1988, she married Richard F. Masker, and they were married for 20 years.
Deon was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker. She was an amazing seamstress and made clothing for her family and herself. She enjoyed crocheting afghans, listening to good music and dancing to Lawrence Welk. She cherished her time spent studying and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with others. She had a passion for travel and even became a travel agent. She taught her children to cook, clean and be thankful for what they have.
She had a passion for the performing arts and spent countless hours involved with the Coeur d’Alene Summer Theater. Deon was an accomplished violinist. For 24 years, she performed with the Coeur d’Alene Symphony. The past 10 years she has performed with the Panhandle Symphony Orchestra, including five years as a board member. She had her last performance in November 2016.
Deon was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in many callings over her lifetime. God, Family and Country were where she held her greatest loyalties.
Deon is survived by her six children: Deborah Sharon of Hayden, Brian Emery (Melissa) of Boise, Jennifer Beck (Robert) of Idaho Falls, Stephanie Rey, Valerie Emery of Hayden and Brandon Emery of Coeur d’Alene. She was a fabulous grandmother to 13 grandsons and seven granddaughters. In the past 3 1/2 years, she was also blessed with seven precious great-grandchildren and one on the way. Deon is also survived by her siblings: Alona Holm, Jay Garfield (Marilyn), Carol Brady and Dale Garfield (Lori); and numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her infant son, David Emery; her parents, Jack and Bertha Garfield; brother Van Garfield and husband Richard F. Masker.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2017, at the LDS Church, 477 E. Honeysuckle, Hayden, with a viewing from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Hayden 1st Ward is officiating. A visitation/viewing is planned from 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2017, at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden.
