There was lots of sports action in Mineral County last week as golf, tennis, track and field got underway for high school athletes. Two tennis matches were played in Superior against Ronan and Granite, score were unavailable.

In golf the Plains Invitational was held at the Wild Horse Golf Course, Par 72. The Thompson Falls team took top honors with 362. Top individual score went to Ryggs Johnston of Libby with 73. Clark Fork players Taryn Ververis shot a 114 and Drake O’Neil a 158.

On April 4, the Clark Fork track team went to the Frenchtown Triangular at Frenchtown where three teams participated for an afternoon of events.

Clark Fork’s Gerald Peterson took first in the 400 with a time of 1:00.72, Isaiah Kovalsky was third at 1:07.74, Rustan Lucas was fourth with a time of 1:08.33. In the 800 meter, CF Jesse Shaske took fourth with a time of 2:10.54 and the Clark Fork 400 meter relay team placed fourth with a time of 50.69 seconds.

Connor Voll placed first in the boy’s long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 1 inch, Sterling Reese took third in shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 1 inch and Trey Green was fourth at 36 feet, 11 inches. In discus, Nick Turnbull placed third with a toss of 105 feet and also took third in javelin with a throw of 130 feet, 9 inches. Sophia Krutilla placed second in the 100 meter with a time of 14.12 seconds and fourth in 200 at 29.83 seconds. The Clark Fork girls relay team placed fourth with a time of 56.75 seconds.

In High jump, Hailey Kelly placed first after clearing 5 feet, and qualified for State. Kenzie Mueller was fourth as she cleared 4 feet, 4 inches. Hailey also placed first in javelin with a toss of 119 feet, 2 inches, breaking the old Superior record of 117 feet, 6 inches.

In pole vault, Emma Duboise took second after clearing 7 feet, 6 inches while Madison Mask was third as she cleared 7 feet.

On April 6, St. Regis travelled to Corvallis for the Florence/Darby Invitational, where 19 teams took to the field and track. St. Regis runner Madison Hill started things out by taking first in the 100 meter dash and second in Long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 2.75 inches. Brock Cantrell-Field placed second in discus at 138 feet, 1 inch and fourth in javelin at 159 feet, 2.50 inches.

It was a cold rainy day on Saturday, April 8 when 17 teams showed up for the Frenchtown Invite, including Clark Fork. Beaverhead County placed first in both the girls and boys team scores. The meet was cut a little short in the afternoon due to a storm which brought strong winds and rain. It put an end to some of the events, including boy’s javelin and discus.

Earlier in the day, Emma Duboise placed second in pole vault at 8 feet, which qualified her for State. Hailey Kelly placed fourth in javelin with a throw of 116 feet, 3 inches.
