Next Monday and Wednesday, officials from the Environmental Protection Agency will answer questions from the public regarding the initial results from ongoing testing of groundwater, surface water and soil contamination at the Columbia Falls Aluminum Co. Superfund Site.

During the Columbia Falls City Council meeting on Monday, April 17, the agency’s site manager Mike Cirian and community involvement coordinator Robert Moler will discuss the summary report outlining the first round of sampling that was released last month. The remedial investigation — the first step in the cleanup process — at the site is being conducted by a company under contract by CFAC, through an agreement with the federal environmental agency overseeing the work.

The city council meeting begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

A second meeting, held by the company’s Community Liaison Panel, takes place at the Columbia Falls High School cafeteria on Wednesday, April 19, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Cirian and Moler will be available to answer questions at the meeting, which will focus on the remedial investigation as well as the feasibility study, which will outline possible cleanup solutions once the investigation is complete.
