Davin Durand Josephson, 63

On March 3, 2017, Davin Durand Josephson, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away at his home. Davin was born to Larry and Barbara Keeler Josephson on June 20, 1953, in Pocatello, Idaho. He attended Pocatello schools and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1971. He married the love of his life, Jodie Aileen Hewlett on Feb. 8, 1975, in Pocatello. They had two daughters, Danielle Marie and Courtney Elizabeth, and resided in Pocatello until 1999 when the family relocated to Coeur d’Alene.

Davin was an active member of his Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was baptized on July 4, 1971. He served as a Ministerial Servant and an Elder and an auxiliary Pioneer when he could, for many years. As an Elder he gave Bible based public discourses at our Christian meetings and assemblies. He was a congregation book study conductor and was privileged to participate in two Bible Dramas at our District Conventions. He and Jodie served together on the RBC, volunteering on construction projects of many Kingdom Halls in six states throughout the Northwest. They enjoyed having a share in that work, while making lifelong friends. He also participated in a construction project at the World Headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Davin was a flooring and tile contractor for most of his adult life and he was a masterful craftsman. He also sold insurance and real estate in Pocatello as a partner with his father.

Davin was a much loved boy, being an only child. He would spend time, while growing up, hunting and fishing with his family in the Idaho wilderness on the many lakes and streams camping, fishing and hunting, where he learned the art of fly fishing. He would carry on that tradition after he was married taking his own family and friends along with him. He especially loved to go to Eight Mile (outside Soda Springs) with his close friends where he was usually the first in the group to tag his deer. Davin loved those special times up in the mountains with his family and friends. He also enjoyed goose and duck hunting. He loved to tell his stories to his wife and she was always eager to listen to him. Davin was an avid golfer and thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent on the golf course with his good friends.

Davin and Jodie had a marriage that was very rare. They were inseparable for the entirety of their marriage. When he had to leave her, he would always say, “Honey, I wish you were going with me.” Davin and Jodie were partners in their business, working together secularly for 33 years. Jodie loyally took care of her beloved husband as his full-time caregiver after a traumatic brain injury, while on vacation in Canada on June 16, 2007. Since Davin’s injury, he has been in and out of the hospital over and over and Jodie has never failed to be at his side continually right down to the end.

Davin is survived by his wife, Jodie, of 43 years, of Coeur d’Alene; his two daughters, Danielle Josephson, also of Coeur d’Alene and Courtney Bajadali (Tony); as well as his two grandsons, Vincent Durand and Maxwell Anthony Bajadali, all of Spokane Valley, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Davin was a fine Christian man with a big heart. He was a wonderful husband and father and will be sorely missed by many.

The family wishes to thank the many people in the community who have been a part of their support team and Davin’s care since his accident: the love, kindness and support of the Christian Congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Coeur d’Alene and Pocatello, Idaho; the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department and EMS Team for their compassion, cooperation and support during the many transports; the many doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists for their professional care during his stays at Kootenai Health ER and CCU, in particular, Dr. David York, Dr. Kevin Strait, Dr. Kevin Joe Chang and Dr. David Souvenir; special acknowledgment to Shari Morris, case manager, and Tim Lewis, respiratory supervisor at NIACH for their professional hard work and participation in arranging the transition of Davin’s release from NIACH to home; the support of the technicians at the Spokane Hyperbaric Center; special thanks to Dr. Susan Melchiore, Dr. Karen Stanak, Dr. Tad Buckland and Dr. Bradley Reed; as well as Ty Rockwell, LMP and Mike Bingham for their tremendous support and cooperation. We would also like to express our deepest appreciation for the many care providers, under the supervision of August Home Health and Crest Home Health. Your professional services, kindness and loving care made it possible for us to keep Davin at home.
