Ronan Athletic Director Lucky Larson organized an opportunity for all of his sports teams to pick up track Wednesday afternoon at Ronan High School.

All of the Chiefs and Maidens coaches went around town wearing their Ronan apparel in attempt to clean up up the town.

The students walked towards back gate of the career center towards Dairy Queen. They then proceeded North to the pizza café and headed south. Some of the groups of athletes went towards Terrace Lake Roast and the rest picked up trash towards Highway 93.

According to cross country coach Noelle Decker she said she felt several of the kids were able to gain respect for community be seeing how others abused it.

“I had several people that commented the next day about what a great project that is,” Decker said. “I believe some of them couldn’t believe how much garbage is thrown away why people couldn’t just dispose of their garbage in a garbage can and you don’t really notice it until you are picking up and you actually have to deal with it.”

Decker, along with all of the other teams coaches and their players participated in the event.

“Lucky does all kinds of things like this and does such a nice job of making sure the kids get involved with the community,” Decker said. “I really thought this event was put together nicely and the kids were much more prominent and in the eyesight of the community this year.”

Decker said she checked her GPS and realized her and the kids walked nearly three miles around town picking up trash.

“My kids really hung with it and worked with it and I couldn’t believe how long we were out there,” Decker said.

Tennis Coach Jim Blow said he felt the experience was positive for the kids.

Its great to we our student athletes give a little back (to the community),” Blow said.
