Frosty Greenfield, Shoshone County Public Works Director has announced Thompson Pass is open.

Greenfield states “Motorists are encouraged to use caution while driving the pass.

There is still a substantial amount of snow in the higher elevations.

Higher daytime temperatures are causing the melting snow runoff on Thompson Pass to turn to ice as temperatures fall below freezing at night.”

Greenfield went on to say the Shoshone County District 1 crew did an exceptional job of clearing snow utilizing a rotary plow truck and graders to complete the annual task. Greenfield commented, “Both residents and visitors are always anxious to have the pass open every spring as it saves travel time and provides a shorter alternate route connecting Idaho and Montana.”
