Columbia Basin roundup: Moses Lake pitchers dominate in Sunnyside sweep

SUNNYSIDE — Savannah Ashley pitched a two-hit shutout, Gina Skinner threw a perfect game and Moses Lake handled Sunnyside 13-0 and 17-0.
In Game 1, Moses Lake (8-1, 8-3) led 5-0 after the first inning. Brooklyn Bailey hit a home run; Brooke Richardson and Cheyenne Walker added RBI singles.
Ashley, Kayle Valdez and Tia Radach also drove in runs.
Skinner struck out nine of the 15 batters she faced in the second game. Ashley helped out her fellow pitcher, going 5-for-5 with five RBI and three doubles.
Michelle Turner, Paige Valdez and Kaylee Valdez all drove in multiple runs.
The Chiefs moved into a tie for first place in the Columbia Basin Big Nine with Eastmont.
Ephrata 20-20, Toppenish 1-0
TOPPENISH — Ephrata (7-5, 7-6) broke out the lumber with a pair of lopsided wins at Toppenish 20-0 and 20-1.
Mikayla Wood was 3-for-5 with a double and triple in the first game.
Ellensburg 1-11, Othello 0-1
OTHELLO — Othello fell short against CWAC-leader Ellensburg, losing 1-0 and 11-1.
The first game was a pitcher's duel between Nikki Martinez and Kalli Fahey. Fahey pitched a no-hitter and struck out 17 batters. Martinez gave up one hit and struck out 20.
The Bulldogs scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning.
Darian Olin hit a grand slam for Ellensburg in Game 2. Othello (7-3, 7-3) scattered two hits.
Warden 18-18, Wahluke 0-0
MATTAWA — Jizelle Pruned threw a perfect game in the opener and Warden trounced Wahluke 18-0 and 18-0.
Bailey Whitney and Jocelyn Chagoya were both 4-for-4 in the first game.
Angel Reyes pitched a two-hit shutout in the late game.
Whitney and Chagoya continued their hot streak with six combined hits in Game 2. Leanna Martinez had four stolen bases.
Baseball
Soap Lake 28-26, Oroville 2-0
OROVILLE — Toby Hartzell pitched a no-hitter in the first game and Soap Lake dominated its doubleheader with Oroville 28-2 and 26-0.
Cameron Bessett recorded four hits, including an inside-the-park home run in Game 2.
Colton Minoletti, Lex Piedra, Brayden Winters, Jackson Gray, Hartzell and Isaiah Ewing all had multi-hit days.
Quincy 16-10, Wapato 1-1
WAPATO — Quincy climbed back into the district playoff picture after beating Wapato 16-1 and 10-1.
The Jacks (7-8, 7-10) have won six games in a row and are now in sixth place in the CWAC.
Warden 14-11, Wahluke 0-0
MATTAWA — Ryan Arredondo and J.R. Delgado both threw no-hitters and Warden swept Wahluke 14-0 and 11-0.
Both pitchers were a hit batter away from a perfect game.
Boys soccer
Davis 4, Moses Lake 0
YAKIMA — Michael Raya scored a hat trick and Davis dispatched Moses Lake 4-0.
Othello 5, Wapato 0
OTHELLO — Othello spread the wealth on senior day and beat Wapato 5-0.
Reese Jones, Bernie Garza Jr., Irvin Sandoval, Chris Alfaro and Juan Tapia all scored. Frankie Ramos had two assists.
Grandview 2, Quincy 0
GRANDVIEW — Alexis Correa scored twice in the first half and Grandview beat Quincy 2-0.
Quincy (3-4, 3-10-1) must win one of its last two games to clinch a playoff berth.
Track and field
Nevarez wins javelin at Blue Devil Legends Invite
WALLA WALLA — Draven Nevarez threw 194 feet, 1 inch to win the javelins at the Blue Devil Legends Invite.
Nevarez was the lone Chief to top the podium. Elly Johnson was edged by Lake City's Jocie Osika in the discus. Johnson had a mark of 124 feet, 3.5 inches and Osika threw 131 feet, 9 inches.

YAKIMA — Big Bend split a road doubleheader with Yakima Valley, winning the opener 8-7 before losing 13-6.
Big Bend rallied from a 4-2 deficit with a five-run eighth inning in Game 1. Rich Hekker, Josh Kallstrom and Seth Reisbeck hit RBI singles. Auggie Francis also hit a home run.
Moses Lake native Hunter Boyd picked up the win for Yakima Valley in Game 2. Boyd allowed two runs in five innings.
