Elementary students in Alberton have been working on a community service project, designed to bring people closer together. It’s “Alberton Stories: A Collection of Stories from Alberton Montana.” Based on a nonprofit organization called StoryCorps, these students interviewed community members and then shared their stories.

“There’s a lot of cool history in Alberton,” said fourth-grader, Georgia Fredette who had interviewed her grandfather, Jerry Wolhart, “you get to hear stories about back when they lived here.”

Classmate, Suji Bay, said it was a fun project and it was a good way to bring the community together. Participants can either conduct interviews themselves with a smart phone or tablet, or they can sign up for an interview time and come to an interview site located at the Cinderella Mountain Gallery in Alberton.

They will be set up to help people conduct interviews on May 2 from 3 to 7 p.m. With StoryCorps, the mission it to “preserve and share humanity’s stories in order to build connections between people and create a more just and compassionate world.”

The Alberton group is hoping to bring those connections to area neighbors. The students made a presentation to the Alberton Seniors during their luncheon last week, and held another public presentation on Thursday.
