Knife River is continuing to ramp up their efforts associated with the City of Kellogg’s Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement Project. Two crews are busy installing both sewer and water lines.
Work is progressing on the west end of Sunnyside, moving east. One crew is active on Oregon Street and the second is on the west end of Brown Street, moving east. A third crew will be arriving soon and plans are being made to move to a six day work week.
Because water lines are being replaced in conjunction with sewer project, localized water outages should be expected. Efforts are made to notify those who will be affected prior to shutdown. Unannounced outages can occur if lines are accidentally broken and need to be repaired.
As always, those living in and around construction zones are asked to plan ahead with regard to street parking medical issues, daycare and detour routes. Most important, be safe. Young children and pets should not access active work sites nor play on soil piles scattered throughout the area.
Anyone needing special assistance related to the project or who may have questions or concerns is asked to contact Mr. Craig Lewis, Superintendent of Public Works at (208) 786-9131. On weekends, holidays or after work hours you may contact Mr. Lewis by calling the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Dispatch at (208) 556-1114 and request that they contact him for you.
To end on a good note, I am happy to announce that the City was recently awarded its second Community Block Grant for $500,000 which will be utilized for the City’s sewer project. I want to thank Nancy Mabile with Panhandle Area Council for her efforts in obtaining this second grant.

Phase II of the City of Kellogg’s Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement Project is well underway for the 2017 construction season. With the new Shoshone News Press schedule it’s difficult to be specific about where crews are working. By the time the article is published, they have moved on. The project continues to work its way east from the west end of the Sunnyside Edition. Work is also occurring on Brown Street. Plans are being made to move onto Cameron Avenue in the near future. Prior to work starting through the Business District, contact will be made with business owners so they can prepare for the disruption. For more information on the project, please go to the City’s Face Book page.
