SANDPOINT — A second suspect has been arrested in connection with an alleged attack that hospitalized a Bonner County man last month.

Shane Alan Carson, 30, is charged with first-degree kidnapping and aggravated battery for allegedly breaking the man’s nose during the incident. Carson made an initial appearance in Bonner County Magistrate Court on Monday.

Judge Debra Heise sustained Carson’s $35,000 bail and appointed a public defender to represent him, court records show.

Lance Joseph Sinka was arrested earlier this month and is awaiting a preliminary hearing on the same set of charges Carson is facing, in addition to a charge of aggravated assault.

The charges flowed from a March 18 attack at a home on Lincoln in Priest River.

The alleged victim told investigators he went to the home in response to allegations that he had stolen a bike and a guitar. The 34-year-old denied the allegations and said he was jumped by Sinka and Carson upon entering the residence.

The alleged victim said he was subjected to a prolonged beating in which he was kicked in the face, choked into unconsciousness and threatened with a knife, according to a probable cause affidavit. The beating last approximately 20 minutes, the affidavit said.

The incident came to light after the alleged victim’s mother was stopped for speeding through Priest River while taking her son to the hospital, court records indicate.
