COEUR d’ALENE — The Coeur d'Alene Symphony is celebrating spring with special guests and a Scandinavian flair.
On May 5 and 6, the Symphony will present its spring finale concert featuring guest pianist Dr. Renato Fabbro and guest conductor Jorge Luis Uzcátegui. Both are high caliber professionals who will bring a finesse and class to the concert.
Uzcátegui is the assistant conductor of the Spokane Symphony, chief conductor of the Seraphim Symphony and music director of the Buddha's Light Youth Symphony Orchestra. He is the founder of the Backyard Academy Symphony Orchestra, an organization dedicated to teaching music to underprivileged children in Los Angeles. Uzcátegui also directs the Music Innovates program, a collaboration between the Spokane Symphony and Spokane Public Schools to change kids' lives through music.
Fabbro serves on the faculties of the University of Portland and Maryhurst University. He has adjudicated many festivals, including some of the most prestigious in the Seattle area. He conducted master classes for the Boise Federation of Music Clubs in 2015-16 and has won prizes and awards in many national competitions.
The Coeur d'Alene Symphony's spring finale theme features music from Scandinavian countries; all the music will be composed by Edvard Grieg, a Norwegian composer and pianist. He is widely considered to be one of the leading Romanic-era composers and his music is part of the standard classical repertoire worldwide.
The concerts will be at 7:30 p.m. May 5 and 2 p.m. May 6 in the Kroc Center, 1765 W. Golf Course Road, Coeur d'Alene.
Admission is $10 for adults with children and $5 for every child the adults accompany. Regular ticket prices are $27 for adults, $21 for seniors, $10 for youth 5-18 years and students 18 and older with ID.
