Richard Eugene ‘Dick’ Johnson, 67

Born Oct. 23, 1949, to Betty and Eugene “Red” Johnson, joining sister Tamara.

He attended school in Dalton and Coeur d’Alene, graduating in 1968. Later, he attended the University of Idaho and studied electrical engineering.

Dick’s love of the outdoors started early in life, terrorizing Dalton Gardens in his go cart.

His interests were varied. Early days of piano recitals inspired a love of music. Bridge (he was a Master) and Cribbage were favorite games. He obtained his pilot’s license. Motorcycles, skiing and boating were favorite activities. He enjoyed computers, gardening, brewing beer (along with drinking it), hiking, fishing, camping and huckleberry picking. The great outdoors continuously called his name. Rafting and soaking in natural hot springs were passions in his life.

His career included working with pump and irrigation systems (following in his father’s footsteps) and working at local lumber mills including Potlatch and Crown Pacific as a certified grader. He later returned to working in the pump and irrigation industry in Idaho and Washington.

Dick passed away on Jan. 26, 2017. He is survived by his mother, Betty Johnson and sister Tamara Johnson, of Coeur d’Alene; along with nieces Bette (James) Budd and Kerry (Chris) Wilson; and nephew Thad Wilson.

He will be missed by family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please send donations to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835.

A celebration of life for Dick will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Q’emiln Park, 12201 W. Parkway Drive, Post Falls. A potluck lunch will be served approximately at 2 p.m., so please bring your favorite dish if you wish. Dick loved to eat!
