Little Kyoto to open this week

A menu with about 100 choices will be offered at Little Kyoto Japanese restaurant when it opens this week at 11250 Government Way in Hayden. Seating will open for about 30 customers in what was the Yellow House Cafe. More will be added as more staff is hired.

Choose from multiple appetizers, salads, bento lunch boxes, 23 entrees, sushi and 60 different rolls. Beverages include beer, wine and sake.Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Owner Byoung Moon came from Japan to Oklahoma State University in 1983 and worked in restaurants in Texas. He visited a friend here last year and decided this is where he wants to be. Phone 772-3850.

Popeye’s place

in Post Falls

A “fast food” place many readers have asked about for months actually is happening. Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen is under construction at 767 Neufeld Lane (across Highway 41 from Wendy’s) in Post Falls.

The 3,000-square-foot place will seat 62 customers indoors and have a drive-through and parking. The 45-year-old company began in Louisiana and has more than 2,000 outlets with its headquarters in Atlanta. The menu includes several varieties of chicken, shrimp and buttermilk biscuits.

Owner Norcal Cajun Foods of Concord, Calif., is also building a Popeye’s on Division Street in Spokane. Local builder Zach Bull of Baker Construction said the Post Falls Popeye’s should be done in September. Check www.popeyes.com.

First Wal-Mart

gas station opens

Something new for Wal-Mart, a gas station-convenience store, has opened near Burger King at 3050 W. Mullan Ave. in Post Falls.

The 1,440-square-foot convenience store has snacks, sodas, gift cards, beer and milkshakes. Hours are 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. with eight employees. The gas is Wal-Mart branded. Phone 457-9866.

Eagle Rock Storage

for RVs and boats

The groundbreaking is 12:30 p.m. Thursday for the 80,000-square-foot building of Eagle Rock RV & Boat Storage at 930 N. Beck Road west of Post Falls. The indoor vehicle storage business will open about Sept. 1.

With over-sized asphalt-paved drive aisles, the facility is designed to accommodate any size RV, boat, trailer and extra vehicle. This is Phase 1 of the place with another 150,000 square feet of storage space planned.

- A new hotel is possible across the street from the parking garage planned for Coeur d’Alene Avenue between Third and Fourth streets.

- Grand opening for The Gutter Guys will be Saturday, May 13, at Government Way. Watch here for details.

- A “Coming Soon” sign for “Cool Nails, Wax & Lashes” is at 9255 Government Way. Taco Loco in the former Valentino’s Pizza place off Canfield Avenue will open in mid-May. Coeur d’Alene Fine Jewelers will be in the Dingle building downtown in June.

- New businesses opening soon include Hollywood Revolver Bar (formerly The Grail) on Seltice Way, Polished Cd’A at 413 Sherman Ave., a Philly Express in the former Subway location on Northwest Boulevard, EyeGuys Optical and Little Caeser’s Pizza on Cornerstone in Hayden and Chamira Fashion and Castaway Cellars in the downtown Plaza Shops. Rumour Boutique is expanding behind Homestyles Lighting at 5648 Government Way.

- The Rustic Restaurant should open soon downtown. A new Asian place will be where the Ugly Fish was in Riverstone. Kitchen CdA is coming to Silverlake Mall.

- Construction in the northwest corner at Ramsey and Prairie is for utilities. Hmmm. What’s going into the new building at 2900 Govt. Way?

- My pickup is a Toyota Tacoma. My grandkid says it should be a Tacopa.

- Venison for dinner again? Oh, deer.

- A real headline: “Typhoon rips through cemetery; hundreds dead.”

- This booboo by TV weathermen has been asked to be repeated. When they say “...further to the west...” it should be “farther.” The clue is the “far...” “Further” means intensity as “We’ll study this further.”
