The North Idaho College Theatre Department is holding open auditions for the musical “The Threepenny Opera” at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, and Wednesday, Aug. 30, in the Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center on NIC’s main campus. The musical was written by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, and translated by Marc Blitzstein. The music director will be Max Mendez, choreographer Crystal Bain, and director Joe Jacoby.

Production dates are Oct. 19-21 and Oct. 26-28. Rehearsals will likely be from 5 or 5:30 p.m. to 8 or 9 p.m., Monday through Friday evenings beginning Sept. 5.

There are openings for four females (ages 20s to 50s) and seven males (ages 20s to 50s) as well as eight to 10 men or women of varying ages for the ensemble. Community members are encouraged to participate in auditions.

Auditioners should prepare 16 bars of a song from a musical, along with the sheet music for an accompanist, clearly marking where the piece should begin and end. Do not bring backing recordings. There will also be movement work and cold reads from the script. Wear clothing that allows full movement.

“The Threepenny Opera” is presented through special arrangement with R & H Theatricals at www.rnh.com.
