ANNIVERSARY

Don and Peggy Cabaniss

50th Anniversary

Just as in the movies, Don saw Peggy across a crowded room. He knew she was the one. This New York girl and California boy slow danced The Night Away. The rest, as they say, is history.

On Aug. 12 1967, Don and Peggy stood in front of family and friends declaring their wedding vows. Five decades later, these two soul mates are more in love than ever. They moved to North Idaho in the late 1970s to raise their two children. After hearing about the beauty of this area, more family made the move north and the Cabaniss family officially made Hayden Lake their forever homestead.

Their secret to happily ever after; respect, friendship and unconditional love. Happy 50th anniversary to Peggy and Don Cabaniss.

At 17, John joined the U.S. Marines and served in Vietnam. When his overseas duty ended, they were married July 29, 1967, in Highland Park, Calif.

The first years of their marriage were spent on the USMC base in Barstow, Calif.

Together they bought a ranch in Grass Valley, Calif., and built their first home. They were blessed with a daughter, Tracie and a son, Johnny.

In 2000, they moved to Sagle, building their lakeside dream home. They are now enjoying their retirement.

John and Arlynn have two children and two grandchildren.

A belated celebration of their 50th anniversary with family and friends will be held this fall along with a trip to Hawaii later this year.

MILESTONE BIRTHDAY

Kathleen Kies

95th Birthday

Kathleen Kies is celebrating her 95th birthday on Aug. 8, 2017. She was born in Roscoe, S.D., on Aug. 8, 1922.

At 18, she moved to Seattle with her sister where she met and married Wayne Kies while both were working at Boeing. She was an original “Rosie the Riveter.” In 1946, after her husband Wayne’s military service was up, they moved to Coeur d’Alene where they raised four children, Wayne Jr., Jean, Kathy and Charles.

She was active with Catholic Daughters and the Girl Scouts. She worked 16 plus years at what used to be The North Shore Motor Hotel and Convention Center (The Coeur d’Alene Resort), managing the center.

After retiring, they traveled for 20 plus years and eventually purchased a home in Pocatello. They have six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
