Vehicle collides with horse on SR 26 Tuesday

A man driving a green Ford Expedition was transported to Othello Community Hospital after his vehicle collided with a horse on SR 26 early Tuesday morning.

Washington State Patrol reported Mario Mendoza, 36, was traveling eastbound near milepost 40 at when a horse entered the roadway. Unable to avoid the four-legged mammal, Mendoza’s vehicle and the horse came to rest blocking the eastbound lanes.

According to the WSP report, Mendoza was wearing his seatbelt, but did receive injuries. Drugs and or alcohol were not factors in the accident.

FFA judging teams among the best at Central Washington State Fair

YAKIMA — The Othello High School FFA judging team brought home several top honors from the Central Washington State Fair held in Yakima Sept. 26. Among them were a first place banner in Class 6 Livestock, and a second place finish by Alyson Shade who beat out all but one of 300 competitors from 61 high schools in the individual dairy judging. Sarah Wilson placed eighth in horse judging.

Annual Jog-a-Thon raises money for a good cause

The Othello PTA held its annual Jog-a-Thon fundraiser at Lutacaga Elementary Friday, Oct. 13. Kindergarten through fifth grade students were scheduled to run laps outside of the school, but the event was moved into the gymnasium because the weather on Thursday left too much moisture on the grass for the kids to run through.
