One person was killed in a crash in Beaverhead County early Tuesday, Aug. 1 and three more were injured after the car, driven by a Polson resident, flipped, partially ejecting a 2-year-old boy.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, Raymond Amaya of California, was killed after a Volkswagen Beetle flipped onto the driver’s side. The accident occurred at 12:17 a.m.

Trooper Barb Armstrong confirmed that the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lorraine Ramirez, 54, told investigators that she was driving west on Interstate 15 on the business loop while she thought she was on the loop for I-15 southbound.

The car impacted a corral gate, Montana Highway Patrol said, then hit a post and “partially flipped onto the driver side.”

Also in the vehicle was a 30-year-old woman and a 3-year-old female, both of Bakersfield, Calif. Their names were not immediately available.

All three females in the vehicle were taken to Barrett Hospital and HealthCare in Dillon.

The two adults were wearing seatbelts and the girl was properly restrained. Montana Highway Patrol confirmed that Amaya was not properly restrained.

According to the Beaverhead County Detention Center roster on Thursday, Aug. 3, Ramirez was being held on a $125,000 bond. She was charged with vehicular homicide while driving under the influence.
