There were no injuries resulting from a fire Aug. 9 on Finley Point Lane toward “the end of Finley Point,” according to officials.

Finley Point Fire Chief Brent Burland said that the call was received just as firefighters finished training exercises, at 9:18 p.m.

Burland said that the small log cabin is considered a complete loss, and he estimates it may cost about $200,000 to rebuild.

A small family was having dinner in the higher level of the structure when the room filled with smoke, Burland said. The family exited the cabin and discovered that the lower level was on fire, prompting a call to the Finley Point Fire Department.

By the time the department arrived on scene, the structure was “fully engulfed,” Burland said, adding that the department responded within five minutes of receiving the initial call.

He also said that the structure was surrounded by pine trees and brush, which were on fire.

“We quickly put those out and contained everything to the structure,” Burland said.

A cause for the blaze is undetermined, but Burland said it is believed to have started in the basement.

Once crews arrived, Burland said mutual aid was requested from Polson City Fire Department, Polson Rural Fire Department and Ronan Fire Department.

Crews cleared the scene at about 3 a.m.
