Air quality may start to improve as early as this weekend with showers a slight possibility, said Press meteorologist Randy Mann.

Area mountains have been seeing scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoons and evenings, and changing systems moving into the area may bring some moisture to lower elevations.

“Air quality has been pretty rough, in the unhealthy category, and it’s going to stay that way ‘til the weekend,” Mann said. “There is definately relief in sight. We’ve just got to hang in there probably ‘til Saturday, and after that we’ll start seeing some steady improvements.”

Mann said it won’t be much precipitation, but temperatures are expected to start dipping next week.
