Combining the penalties for the charges against Tanner D. Flowerdew would add up to 25 years behind bars, $160,000 in fines and 25 years probation.
It’s not likely they will be imposed, however, a Coeur d’Alene judge assured the Spirit Lake 26-year-old.
“That’s just a horror story,” First District Judge Benjamin R. Simpson said.”That isn’t what’s going to happen.”
Flowerdew, thin and slightly stooped, wearing jailhouse stripes, sat quietly at his arraignment Thursday where he pleaded guilty to four felonies including burglary, injuring jail property, one count of possession of a stolen vehicle and one count of attempted escape from the Kootenai County jail. Two additional felonies and several misdemeanors were dismissed as part of a plea arrangement.
Flowerdew also agreed to pay restitution for all the counts.
The cases stem from a June crime spree, and four new manila files were added to the stack in front of the judge, he said.
“The more files you have the easier it is to settle cases,” the judge said.
More charges allow more room for negotiation, he said.
He read the charges one at a time to Flowerdew, who was represented by conflict attorney Edward J. Lawlor.
Flowerdew pleaded guilty to a June 1 burglary at a residence on the 900 block of North Second Street in Coeur d’Alene; to stealing a 1998 Oldsmobile, June 10, in Kootenai County; attempting to escape from jail; and to a June 28 charge of busting up jail property.
Simpson ordered a pre-sentence report to review before sentencing, which has not yet been scheduled. The agreement allows prosecutors and Lawlor to argue for a sentencing recommendation.
Flowerdew’s criminal history includes a juvenile record of alcohol use, malicious injury to property and battery charges.
