Cd'A High grad becomes brain surgeon

Dr. Seth Oliveria, a 1997 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High, has begun work as the medical director of functional neurosurgery at the Providence Brain and Spine Institute in Portland, Ore.

Dr. Oliveria specializes in deep-brain stimulation, a surgical procedure used to treat disabling neurological symptoms, such as Parkinson’s disease.

Dr. Oliveria began working for the institute this month after graduating from a residency program of seven years at the University of Florida Department of Neurosurgery in Gainesville, Fla. He obtained his medical degree and doctorate in neuroscience from the University of Colorado Denver. He completed his undergraduate studies at Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore.

Dr. Oliveria is married to the former Stephanie Ashmore, of Sandy, Ore., a former nursing director in the intensive care pediatrics department at Shands Hospital, University of Florida. The couple lives in Portland, Ore. Dr. Oliveria is the son of Dave and Brenda Oliveria of Coeur d’Alene.
