ELLENSBURG — A collision on Interstate 90 near Ellensburg on Thursday left a Tacoma man with serious injuries.

About 12:40 p.m. Dustin Cruz, 25, of Moses Lake, was traveling west in a 2011 International Tractor with two hay trailers on Interstate 90, about 17 miles east of Ellensburg. Cruz was in front of a 2014 Peterbilt Tractor with a tanker trailer driven by Ricky Fuller, 47, of Tacoma.

Fuller started to approach Cruz’s semi and was unable to brake and collided with Cruz. Both of the trucks came to a rest blocking the westbound I-90 lanes, according to the Washington State Patrol. Fuller was seriously injured in the collision and airlifted from the scene to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment. Cruz was not injured. Both of the trucks sustained reportable damages and were impounded.

The patrol reports the cause of the collision was Fuller following too close. Charges are pending. The collision caused significant travels delays into the night on Thursday as authorities cleared the scene and investigated the collision.
