Margaret Nielsen-Schaffner, 75
Margaret Nielsen-Schaffner joined our Heavenly Father on July 25, 2017.
Margaret was born and raised in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on April 26, 1942, to George and Esther Nielsen. After graduating from IHM Academy, she attended Saint Elizabeth nursing school where she earned her Registered Nurse license.
She married Ed Schaffner and together they adventured around the world with the military, building a family along the way. After 20 years of military service, they returned to Coeur d’Alene with their three children. Margaret continued working in the field she loved — nursing — for 17 years, and eventually retired from Deaconess Hospital. She then dedicated her energy to various projects at St. Pius X Catholic Church and her favorite pastime was quilting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Esther Nielsen; sister Marlene Millheisler and brother George Nielsen.
She is survived by her husband, Ed; son Duane; daughter Jennifer (Lynne); son Mark (Monica) and granddaughter Amy Rae. Also by her sister, Helenmarie Hedburg; and brothers John (Sharon) and Dick (Janice) Nielsen, and their families.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at St. Pius X Church, 625 E. Haycraft Ave., Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
