OES announces scholarship winners

The Order of the Eastern Star, Martha Chapter 34, Sandpoint is pleased to announce the presentation of two Betty Mills Memorial scholarships to deserving graduating high school students in both Clark Fork and Bonners Ferry. The focus of the scholarship is volunteerism and both recipients exceeded in this requirement.

Lia Crumpton of Clark Fork and Grace Coughlin of Bonners Ferry each were presented an $800 scholarship to help defray costs for their future education. Each graduate excelled in volunteerism and we feel it’s an endeavor they will continue throughout their lives.

This scholarship is made available for application to all graduating seniors in Lake Pend Oreille and Bonners Ferry School districts. Martha Chapter looks forward to the pleasure of extending this opportunity to students again next year.

Krames receives bachelor’s degree

Alexandra Krames has earned a bachelor of science degree from the City College of New York.

Krames is a theater major with a Jewish studies minor. She graduated summa cum laude.

In addition, Krames received the Bernie West Achievement Award and was a Michael & Irene Ross scholar.

Roe is accepted into Wake Forest

Nathan Roe, who graduated with high honors from Sandpoint High School this year with a 4.265 grade point average, has been accepted for the fall 2017 term at Wake Forest University.

Roe will start classes at Wake Forest on Aug. 28, 2017. He is planning on majoring in biology and hopes to get accepted to Wake Forest’s medical school after getting his bachelor’s degree. He hopes to become a physician.

Roe loves playing beach volleyball with his friends, mountain biking, weightlifting, and enjoys working.

Students graduate from Whitworth

Several area students have been awarded a degree from Whitworth University.

Earning degrees from the area were:

Clark Fork — Desiree Westphal, bachelor of arts, psychology.

Sandpoint — Pauline Harris, bachelor of arts, English — writing track, cum laude.

Located in Spokane, Whitworth is a private, liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church. The university offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

NNU announces spring dean’s list

Northwest Nazarene University’s Office of Academic Affairs announces that 770 students have been named to the dean’s list for the 2017 spring semester.

To be eligible for this academic honor in the College of Arts & Sciences, a student must earn a 3.5 grade-point average while taking at least 12 graded credit hours of classes at the undergraduate level. To be eligible in the College of Graduate & Adult Studies, a student must earn a 3.5 grade-point average while taking at least six graded credit hours of classes at the undergraduate level, or a 4.0 grade-point average while taking six graded credit hours at the graduate level.

From Sandpoint, earning a spot of the dean’s list were April Libby, Sandpoint; Elizabeth Dalessio, Sandpoint; and Geoffrey Penrose, Sandpoint.
