Ales for the Trail lists People's Choice winners

The North Idaho Centennial Trail Foundation announced the winning breweries participating in this year’s Ales for the Trail beer competition.

Held last weekend at McEuen Park, 27 breweries and three cideries participated by donating two kegs of their product to compete in a new “people’s choice” competition. Event-goers had more than 60 different beers and ciders to choose from, and more than 750 attendees voted for their favorites.

The first-place winner was The Blood Orange IPA donated by Coeur d’Alene’s very own Daft Badger Brewing. Daft Badger has been supporting Ales for the Trail since its inception in 2013. The second-place winner was the Orangelicious Golden Ale donated by Orlison Brewing Co. from Spokane/Airway Heights. Third-place honors were bestowed on Great Northern Brewing Co. for its Big Mountain Tea Pale Ale.

The North Idaho Centennial Trail Foundation relies on Ales for the Trail as its major fundraiser.

“We’re very fortunate to have a premier event like this supported by the communities of Spokane and Coeur d’Alene. Every dollar that Ales for the Trail earns at this event goes right back into our organization. It gives our foundation a greater ability to carry out our mission to preserve and develop the North Idaho Centennial Trail System,” said Todd Dunfield, foundation executive director.

Next year Ales for the Trail will be on Aug. 11, 2018, again from 2 to 8 p.m. in McEuen Park on the shore of Lake Coeur d’Alene.
