Chorale Coeur d'Alene seeks choir singers to audition

Chorale Coeur d’Alene, formerly called Northwest Sacred Music Chorale, is holding a fall retreat for new and existing chorale members from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m on Aug. 26. Men and women 16 years or older who can read music, have sung in a choir recently and love to sing are invited to attend the retreat and to audition afterward.

The retreat will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, 8134 N. Meyer Road, Post Falls. It includes a meet-and-greet with breakfast snacks, a bit of business, introduction to fall music, and a light potluck salad and dessert lunch.

This is an opportunity to experience the singers and ambience of the chorale — a sort of “try it before you buy it” for potential new members. Our repertoire is drawn from both sacred and secular works, and includes music of Haydn, Mozart and Palestrina to Rutter, Martin and Holst.

The concerts this fall, titled “Spirit Awake,” include works of Mendelssohn, Copeland and Haydn and include a performance at the Panida Theater in Sandpoint. This spring we will be performing two Requiems at The Fox Theatre in Spokane — Gabriel Faure and Dan Forrest.

Auditions are simple and no preparation is needed. To audition, new members will simply sight-read a hymn, sing some scales to determine which section he or she should sing in and tell us about their previous choir experience.

The chorale is looking for members throughout the Inland Northwest. Other audition dates include Aug. 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Opportunity Presbyterian Church in Spokane Valley and Aug. 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Coeur d’Alene.
