Philip W. Brown, 83
Philip Wallace Brown, 83, of St. Maries, Idaho, died peacefully on Aug. 7, 2017, due to complications of dementia in Hayden, Idaho. Phil was born March 10, 1934, to Rev. Wallace “Alvin” Brown and Helen Ilene (May) Brown in Monrovia, Calif.
On Jan. 16, 1957, he married Judith Lee Vogel in St. Maries, and would spend the next 56 years together. His Air Force career took them to various countries and states over the next 20 years. Following his military service, the family moved to St. Maries where he spent the following 20 years as the city foreman and raising his eight children. After the children were grown, they moved to Hayden, Idaho, in 2010, closer to their siblings. Phil took joy in spending time with his eight children, numerous grandchildren and beloved pets, Misha and Beau.
Phil is preceded in death by his wife, Judith Brown; daughter Cindy Marie Caswell; and siblings Paul Brown, Don Brown, Elitha “Kitten” Gregory, Margie Casteel, Judy Urell and Linda Appel.
Survivors include his sister, Rose Gilmore of Prineville, Ore.; daughters Susan (Charles) Pomeroy of Bellevue, Wash., and Sally Pentland of Orofino, Idaho; sons Phillip (Valerie) of Missoula, Mont., Leonard of Bonney Lake, Wash., Jay and Kelly (Heather) of Spokane, Wash., and Jerry of Post Falls, Idaho. As well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A special military service and burial in his honor will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries, with Deacon Floyd Turner officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow services at the Benedictine Hall.
