Faye Louise Shartzer, 96
Faye Louise Shartzer, of Coeur d’Alene, passed away Aug. 19, 2017, at Schneidmiller Hospice House in Hayden.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at Pines Cemetery in Spokane Valley, with Reverend Craig Sumey of First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d’Alene officiating.
Faye was born in Harrison, Ark., to King and Reba Speer on Jan. 18, 1921. She and family moved to Arizona when she 6. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
Faye graduated as Valedictorian at Flagstaff High School in 1939. She was employed at The Orpheum Theatre in Flagstaff, Ariz., where she met and fell in love with Clarence L. Shartzer who was managing the theater at the time. They married in 1940. They resided in Flagstaff while her husband began his career in the newspaper business. Faye also worked at the paper as a teletype operator for many years. The newspaper business took them to the northwest in 1966. Following her husband’s death in 1975, she returned to work as a church secretary until her retirement. In 1989, she married Ed Shartzer in Missoula, Mont. In 1993, she moved back to Coeur d’Alene.
Besides being a talented self-taught artist (painting), Faye was a skilled seamstress, sewing clothing, including prom dresses and wedding dresses, for her daughters. She was a lifelong bridge player and at 90, transitioned to playing bridge on a new iPad and then used it also to keep in touch with her kids and grandkids.
Faye is survived by daughters Dianne Reeves, Marilyn (Roger) Honig and Judy (Kevin) Kirking; stepchildren Ralph (JoAnn) Shartzer and Peggy (John) Pritchard; grandchildren Mike Reeves, Shelly Pierre, Trisha Rook, Jimmy Sweigart, Karen Baloy, Scott Kirking and Kim Ritacca; as well as 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to Hospice of North Idaho, Schneidmiller Hospice House, 2290 W. Prairie Ave., Hayden, ID 83815. The family is grateful for their caring support in her final days.
