SANDPOINT — A father and son near Athol were arrested Wednesday for threatening two people with a pistol the same day they were evicted from their property.

Arthur Greydanus is charged with aggravated battery for hitting a 43-year-old man with a stick during the confrontation. Greydanus’ son, Joseph, is charged with two counts of aggravated battery for threatening the 43-year-old and a 13-year-old with a .357 magnum pistol, according to court documents.

Arthur Greydanus, 66, and Joseph Greydanus, 27, made initial appearances in Bonner County Magistrate Court on Thursday via video feed from the Bonner County Jail. Judge Tera Harden ordered the younger Greydanus held in lieu of $200,000 bail, while the elder Greydanus’ bail was set at $100,000, court records show.

Public defenders have been appointed to represent the duo and they are forbidden from having contact with the alleged victims.

Deputies arrived at a residence off Boomtown Drive the 43-year-old victim lying on the ground and Arthur Greydanus covered in blood, although a probable cause affidavit did not specify where the blood came from.

Gunshots were discharged during the altercation, although it is in dispute as to whether the shots were fired into the air or in the direction of the alleged victims, according to court documents.

The confrontation occurred the same day Bonner County Magistrate Court Judge Justin Julian ruled against the Greydanuses in an eviction proceeding, court documents indicate. It was not clear what connection, if any, the alleged victims had with the owners of the property.

The landowners accused the Greydanuses of defaulting on rent payments, while the Greydanuses countered that they were in the process of buying the property and had sunk some $41,000 of their own money on improvements to the property.

A preliminary hearing in the criminal cases is set for Sept. 6.
