Caribou fire still burning in the Yaak

The Kootenai National Forest and firefighting resources from Canada are battling a wildfire in the outer reaches of the Yaak.
The so-called Caribou fire, located mostly in the Three Rivers Ranger District and in the “upper reaches” of Caribou Creek and Robinson Mountain, was reported Aug. 11, according to the Kootenai Interagency Dispatch Center website, which listed its size at 1,300 acres Sunday evening.
“The fire ... is burning in timber with active fire behavior and exhibiting torching and spotting,” states an Aug. 24 news release. “A Type III Team led by Justin Erickson of the Three Rivers Ranger District is in command of the fire. The team will continue mop up work and patrol for hot spots.”
Area closures include Geneva Lake Trail No. 22, Young Creek Trail No. 58 and Robinson Mountain Trail No. 59. A full list of closures can be viewed at www.fs.usda.gov/kootenai/.
Stage II Fire Restrictions are in effect.
